Dear "Americans"

For as long as I can remember, United States citizens have called their beloved country "America". For any other country in America that would be insulting, and most rational people would consider that to be egocentric at levels beyond imagination. Now, due to what our fellow Americans, between Mexico and Canada, call themselves, it's safe to say that we can call ourselves "Americans" too, not because we are a colony and associated with the United States of America, but because we are in America. And hey! that's how they do it in the United States of America so why not do it in the Puerto Rico of America, so can every other country in this part of the world. America is not a country... It's a continent. And here is a list of the countries that compose America (North, Central & Caribbean, and South America):

Now, let's be realistic, United States Is by far the most famous country in this part of the world, who knows if maybe the entire planet, but does that gives them the right to just take a name that has already been given to a certain geographic area? You don't see the French calling themselves "Europe" or the Chinese calling themselves "Asia", or as Britney Spears would say, the Japanese calling themselves "Africa". Now, the average United States citizen Is ignorant beyond belief and it will continue to be ignorant for generations to come until they realize that America goes far beyond 50 states, and that not every spanish speaking person in this continent is Mexican as they so firmly believe. I'm from Puerto Rico, and I wrote this in english with the hope that some United States citizen gets to see this and pass it along to some of their fellow "Americans", to see if they finally realize that just one igloo is not Antarctica, that just one beach is not the Caribbean, that just one desert is not Africa, that just one forest is not Asia, that just one soccer field is not Europe and that there is already a country that is also a continent... Australia.

"I've never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don't like eating fish. And I know that's very popular out there in Africa." - Britney Spears
